The Minnesota Vikings will need to beat the Saints in New Orleans and hope to see other results falling their way to stay in the playoff hunt.

We might have a barn-burner when the New Orleans Saints kick off against the Minnesota Vikings on Sunday, in the second leg of the NFL’s wild-card games. According to updated odds from BetMGM, the Saints are still favored to beat the Vikings by 7.5 points — but the over/under has climbed up to 49.5, the highest projected total of the week. It suggests a finish in the neighborhood of Saints 29, Vikings 21.

The over/under totals set for the three other wild-card round games range from a week-low between the Buffalo Bills and Houston Texans (43.5, with the Texans favored by 2.5) to a middling game with the Tennessee Titans and New England Patriots (44.5, Patriots by 4.5), and a next-best finale when the Seattle Seahawks visit the Philadelphia Eagles (45.5, Seahawks narrowly favored by 1.5). Expectations are that the Saints and Vikings will produce some fireworks in an otherwise quiet weekend.

And that’s probably due to the health of players returning from injury on both sides. Minnesota is welcoming starting running back Dalvin Cook and his backup, rookie Alexander Mattison, into the lineup. They’ll be playing with all-star wide receiver Adam Thielen who has dealt with his own injury issues this season; altogether, they should give a powerful shot in the arm to the Kirk Cousins-led Vikings offense.

As for the Saints: their injury report listed starting safeties Vonn Bell and Marcus Williams as having put in a full practice on Friday, which suggests they’ll each take the field on Sunday. They’ve been good for a turnover almost every week they’ve played (Bell lead the team with 5 fumble recoveries in the regular season, while Williams did the same with 4 interceptions), with Bell chipping in the Saints’ first defensive touchdown of the year in his scoop-and-score fumble return against the Seahawks back in Week 3. They can both inject some real play-making ability at the perfect time for New Orleans.

The Minnesota Vikings and the New York Jets face off on Sunday in Week 14 NFL action.

The Minnesota Vikings have had a tough season on and off of the field but even so their 5-7 record is a sign of improvement and a team that we may want to keep an eye on next season. The Vikings offense is averaging 19.4 points and a 30th ranked 300.8 yards per game and they are led by QB eddy Bridgewater who has completed 61.1 percent with eight touchdowns and seven interceptions. Jerick McKinnon leads the Vikings in rushing with 538 yards and Greg Jennings is Minnesota’s leading receiver with 45 catches and four touchdowns. The Vikings defense allows 21.4 points and a 10th best 342.9 yards per game and they are plus one in turnover ratio. Robert Blanton has 84 tackles, Chad Greenway has 75 tackles, and Harrison Smith and Anthony Barr each have 70 tackles. The Vikings have a nice young group of talented playmakers and next season they should have Adrian Peterson back as well.

The New York Jets are having a miserable season and they are coming off of another bad loss blowing a 4th quarter lead against the Dolphins on Monday Night. The Jets offense has been pathetic averaging just 15.8 points and 311.5 yards per game and led by QB Geno Smith who has completed 57.4 percent of his passes with seven touchdowns and 11 interceptions. Chris Ivory as rushed for 641 yards and five touchdowns and Eric Decker has 49 catches. The Jets defense is allowing 26.6 points and 322 yards per game and they are minus 12 in turnover ratio. Demario Davis has 91 tackles, Davis Harris has 90 tackles, and Dawan Landry has 83 tackles. The Jets are in the market for a new Head Coach more than likely.

Minnesota is 4-0 against the spread at home against a team with a losing road record, 5-1 against the spread in heir last six games, and 3-8 against the spread following a win. New York is 3-7 against the spread following a loss, 3-8-1 against the spread in their last 12 games, and 0-4 against the spread in their last four road games against a team with a losing home record. New York has covered the point spread in their last four games against Minnesota.

Vikings

This seems like a big number but the Jets are that bad so I am with the public here fading the Jets.
